Louisiana Justice Coalition

Research & Publications

LJC conducts valuable research and produces needed materials to the field. These include trainings, research and the publication of materials for the field.

LJC has conducted research on a number of criminal and juvenile justice practices in Louisiana, including surveys of the client community, exoneree advocacy, public defender practice, bail practices, and other topics.

LJC has also done trainings for both defenders and allies to improve media outreach and communication, and facilitated trainings to ensure accurate appreciation of restrictions relating to legislative advocacy, conducted research on the client community, criminal justice practices, court-watching programs, client complaint policies and district public defender practices.

Finally, LJC has collaborated with its diverse network of allies to produce needed resources in the field. These include the LJC ‘Report Cards’ on adult and juvenile public defense service, ‘Know Your Rights’ guides, practice manuals addressing competency, collateral consequences and other issues, and resources for clients relating to their contact with the criminal and juvenile justice systems.
