Report Cards
In March 2005, LJC released its "Report Cards" on adult and juvenile public defense in Louisiana. These report cards evaluate Louisiana’s compliance with the American Bar Association Ten Principles of a Public Defense Delivery System (for adults). Louisiana's report card for juveniles evaluate Louisiana's compliance with the National Juvenile Defender Center and American Council of Chief Defenders Ten Core Principles for Providing Quality Delinquency Representation through Indigent Defense Delivery Systems.
For each report card, grades were assessed by the LJC Executive committee, which included representatives of both the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Louisiana Public Defenders Association. Louisiana receives grades of ‘F’ in 8 of the 10 Principles for adult representation and grades of 'F' in all 10 Principles for juvenile representation.
