Directory Of Jails And Prisons

Generally speaking, incarcerated defendants who are waiting for trial are detained in a parish prison, though some convicted offenders may serve short sentences in Parish prisons as well. State prisons are usually reserved for convicted offenders who are serving a sentence. A defendant who is being represented in an appeal may be moved back to the parish prison, or remain in the state facility where he is serving his sentence.
